Haiti: U.S. Ambassador Meets with PM Garry Conille and Others Haitian Authorities

The meeting was arranged to coordinate the organization of the transition process in Haiti.
Haiti’s Prime Minister, Garry Conille, met with US Ambassador, Dennis H. Hankins and election expert Sidi Diawara in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince on Saturday.

According to the local press, the main purpose of the meeting was to discuss and organize preparations or details for the National Conference, as well as constitutional reform and the organization of general elections in Haiti.
Accompanied by Dominique Dupuy, Minister of Foreign and Religious Affairs, Conille emphasized the importance of these processes in strengthening the new Haitian democracy.
In a statement issued on Monday, the government announced that one of the priorities of the administration of Conille is to hold elections before February 2026.
The week before, the prime minister met with Canadian leader Justin Trudeau, who offered Canada’s support to facilitate transparent elections in Haiti. “Prime Minister Trudeau expressed his satisfaction with the first steps taken by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Conille in managing the current global crisis affecting the country,” the statement said.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has also expressed its readiness to observe future elections in Haiti, reaffirming the regional commitment to the democratic process. During these weeks, Conille has been in dialogue with the National Identification Office (ONI) and various political parties, ensuring that elections are conducted in a transparent and credible manner.
After the meeting, Prime Minister Conille was optimistic that progress will be made in the process of political transition in Haiti.
